Props to an awesome Business Blog!
Ever so often I go surfing online through various categories and today it was the “business” category. In my search I came across this fanastic SEO blog. For those of you who are not familiar with SEO, it stands for Search Engine Optimization and online is a big deal when it comes to business marketing. As in marketing your blog for example.
CqWen is the name / URL to this great blog. You will find a wide variety of topics which in my humble opinion are created with the eye to great information and super content. Personally I can’t ask for more.
One of my favorite posts which gave me some really great information was posted on December 16th 2010 by Jeff Commerford. Since I am always looking for ways to save money and make my business run smoothly “Using an online Fax Service can save you time and money” was right up my aisle. Not only did he point out the positive points of partaking in such a service, but he also explained how it works. Go read it for yourself!
SEO tips are wide spread throughout the various blog posts as well. Taking me back to the original point of why I found this Blog so great. You can never get enough of those tips, let’s face it. But as the copyright notice on the bottom of his blog says, it doesn’t end there. CqWen also offers tips and tutorials about MAC OS, drivers, servers and Linux.
Before I forget it, for you beginning webdesigners, you want to dig a little further back into their archives and check out this blog post by “admin” – A Handy Tool for Beginner Web Designers!”
Now that I wet your whistle so to speak, don’t take my word for it. Go and give this great blog a “read through” and add it to your Favorites List if it struck you the way it did me.

Heads up from my Canadian Friends – Help wanted!
I am constantly active online trying to find jobs and ways to earn an income. Not only for myself, but also to be able to pass it along to my amazing readers.
No, I am not trying to blow sunshine up your know what, but I belief that we get a lot further if we all work together. Today I came across this amazing little gem which is perfect for my friends in Canada.
Here is the deal. This is a Job Recruiting service and you can do two ways of earning money. One the obvious – if you see a job posted on the sidebar you like, apply to it and hopefully you get hired on! Wonderful – means paycheck in your pocket.
Or you can the referer route. In which case you get paid if you refer someone great for a job, which they need. So both of you win. Best of all it is 100% free to join. So none of those nasty…pay me $39.95 just to see if you got ripped off or scam jobs.
So take a look and if you feel that this is something you can do – Join up for free! If you see a job posted on here, click the link (yes if you get hired I might get a referal fee so you are doing something great for me too) and apply for the job. Now here is the catch for you refers.
The applicant or candidate which you referred has to be hired in order for you to get paid. So no hanky panky. And he/she actually have to be on the job for a little while (30 Days I think), so no fair getting someone hired on just to get paid and they quit. This is a 100% legit transaction.
Alright, good luck with the job hunt my friends!
Speak softly, tread easy, and think hard
This could be a lesson for life in general, but it is just as valuable for interaction with potential clients and readers for your website / blog.
Speak softly:
In today’s society our use of language has taken a turn for the crude, the often obnoxious and frequently obscene. Dirty talk has become almost a norm for many people, rather then an exception. In so many areas it appears as if you can not even have a normal conversation anymore with folks of the opposite gender without it being taken into a “flirtatious” arena.
This might be all fine and good if you are dealing with this away from business related matters, but unless you are involved in the adult industry and that is your job, it is hardly appropriate in business interaction. Am I being prudish here? To some of you I might be, but there are still some old fashioned business people out there, who will not take you serious if you think you can “flirt” your way through your business day.
Yes, of course we all know those who have slept their way to the top. It is part of the dark side of business, along with over paid CEO’s and their mega bonuses. Just as bribes into the right pockets have paved many business ventures for bigger corporations. Yet one thing remains the same, you often fall a lot faster then you have risen, if you do it in shady ways.
When you address someone unknown to you, you are not aware of their sensibilities. You have no idea of what their personal moral code might be like. So often we as human beings make the assumption that just because something does not offend us, it is perfectly alright to push it on others. Nothing could be further from the truth. When it comes to business, you need to keep your mind firmly on the bottom line. Which is make a good impression, get the deal in as fair a manner to both parties as possible, and follow through with your agreement to the successful conclusion of the business deal at hand.
So many seem to think, that a one time great deal is enough! If you feel that way, you are setting yourself up for failure. You as a wise business owner need to think ahead! To me a blogger or writer, a website owner who makes their income from those ventures is a business owner as well. With that in mind, anything that generates you an income needs to be handled with a business mind and attitude.
Let me return to the setting yourself up for failure statement. Each time you approach someone about a business deal you are marketing a product so few of us think about. You are marketing yourself. Yes you might not be selling yourself, but you are selling your knowledge, your credibility, and your honor. You are the spokes person for your company, your product and for those whom you represent. If you come off like a street person about to make a shady deal, or someone begging for a couple of dollars, those on the other side of that table are not going to look at you with the respect and interest in dealing with you as you desire. The same goes for each time you write another blog post, or add yet another page to your website. YOU are the one who controls in the end how others perceive you. Never just look for the one time deal, but work hard on building a great rapport between you and your clients or readers. Look for the continuing return and give them a reason to do so. Leave the party attitude and talk at the door, unless it is part of your business. In that case forget what I said and enjoy.
Tread easy:
Tread easy to me represents the “honest offer”! What do I mean by that? Don’t make promises you can not hold. Do not claim to know more then you actually do. Remember that there is always someone who knows just a little bit more on a subject then you do. You may or you may not be called upon your lack of knowledge, but those who think they can pretend their way through life in the end will fail. There is not shame in admitting you don’t know something. I try to learn something new daily. In the big picture I am just a tiny little fish in a big pond. My advice is not backed up by multimillion dollar market research, but it is my honest opinion and a lot of common sense. I pass along to you what I have learned by doing – both right and wrong – and by paying attention to what those around me have done.
I am an Entrepreneur, but I am not a big shot money guru. You won’t see me writing any books titled “How to make a million dollars in 10 hours or less!” Simply because the only way I can see that would work is off the poor suckers who are sending in the $59.99 per sign up to learn the trick of the trade. So can you make the large amounts of money in a short time? Sure if you are the one that convincingly sells the dream.
I have understood over many years of doing now, that in the end it takes honesty and effort to get somewhere. It might be a long road and it might take some time, but in the end you can be honest and still make a great income even these days on the internet. It is simply called building a loyal clientele and that you can only do by giving them something worth having.
Tread easy with your promises and claims. Don’t open your mouth so wide that the BS falls out. Be sure that what you offer can live up to the claims you are making. You may take a little bit longer to get to the rainbow, but once you are there you have the satisfaction of knowing you have done it the right way. Success is your right; you don’t need to feel guilty about it. There is plenty of it available out there for everyone! You do not need to feel dirty about being successful, but you have to allow yourself to have it and do it the honorable way. This includes working for it, keeping at it when times get tough, and doing what it takes without trying to walk over someone else along the way.
Think hard:
Last but not least is thinking before you act and speak. Take some time to think ahead, before jumping to action or conclusions. Don’t over analyze things either; you will never know all the facts. You need to find a good and solid middle ground in that process. Not enough thought can cost you great opportunities and a lot of money. Thinking so much that you never get around to taking actions can do the same.
Make yourself familiar with human behavior and psychology a little. There are many areas of being where we humans react very similar in the same situations. Make certain you do not by your behavior or choice of words, trigger a negative response in those you are trying to deal with on a daily bases. Again you are the one that will in the end be responsible for the outcome if you have been simply too blind, thoughtless or lazy to think ahead.
Over the years I have dealt with many people who had the attitude: It is my way or the highway. I personally have found that those with this particular attitude will lose out on a lot of wonderful opportunities, people and ways to grow in business and personally. There have to be some standards, that is a given, but when you become so close minded that you are not willing to listen to anyone but yourself any more it is time to just pack your bags and move to Mars.
I know that at times my thinking and trained in attitudes (and yes folks all of our attitudes have been trained into us by circumstances and life lessons) can be faulty. I am always willing to listen to what someone else has to tell me, but then it is up to me to either see it as my personal truth or disregard it. Quiet often I have found that I can gain a little grain of wisdom and knowledge from even the simplest suggestion or opinion someone else has voiced. Sometimes that is enough to kick me into a new way of thinking and now growth has begun. As I grow and evolve, so does my business. As I learn new things, I can pass my new found knowledge in simple language on to someone else who is still looking for it.
Think hard before you reject someone else’s knowledge, thoughts and words out of hand. They might just have been the missing piece you needed to move that extra step forward. Even if it was something you could not agree with, it still gave you an opportunity to think deeper about the subject at hand.
Think hard before closing a door in someone’s face. I see that out there so much in both relationships and business. Just because this individual is not exactly what you wanted, might not be as easy to deal with as you might have liked and you are finding yourself a little bit challenged now, you should still think hard about what positive trades they bring to the table. Quiet frequently you get rejected as a novice writer, because you do not have the long and impressive portfolio that other established authors have. Quiet frequently companies do not want to hire someone with little or no experience, because they do not feel that this would be to their best interest. In my opinion there are two problems with this soft of action.
#1 How is someone suppose to gain experience or that impressive portfolio if nobody is willing to give them a chance in the first place? You had to start out somewhere as well, didn’t you? So why are you so against giving someone else a hand up?
#2 This new writer or untrained person might just be the fresh voice and outlook you need in your company to push it forward. Sometimes we get so stagnated that this little bit of fresh air can bring out engines to run a lot smoother again.
Will they make mistakes at first? Certainly, count on it. Didn’t you make mistakes when you first started out? Don’t you still make mistakes from time to time? So what is the difference? Again think hard, before rejecting anything out of hand.
Think hard before you make any new associations. Ask some questions about this new person or company. Ask them some questions which are not on the cheat sheet you have always in front of you. See how they behave in a normal setting. Don’t try to trap them, but don’t allow them to feed into your ego either. How many times have you seen this little song and dance? “Oh you are so amazing, you are just so talented! I think your company is one of the best and that is why I want to work for you.”
Personally every time I hear the over the top compliments from someone who barely knows me, my warning flags go up high. I prefer honesty, and I don’t particular fancy false compliments and fluttery eye lashes. I guess you could say I look for something other then “make me feel important” from people.
Those I have treasured the most in my past are the ones that are comfortable enough with me and think me intelligent enough to hold an honest conversation with me. Who will disagree with me, when they see I am doing something wrong. Who will tell me truthfully when they think I am being a knucklehead horses behind. I may not like what they are saying, I might even feel slightly upset at first, but once I have had time to think about it then I can see that this was the true value of someone I want to associate with.
Kissing someone’s fluffy cheeks all the time or brown nosing is for those who need it because they can’t see their own worth. It isn’t for someone confident enough in themselves and in their business who wants to advance themselves.
Think hard before you want to surround yourself with nothing but ass kissers and fair weather friends.
As I said this post was a good guideline as I see it for both business and real life. You can take it on both spectrums of the universe. I hope it made you think if nothing else. You don’t need to agree with me, and you can feel free to even think I am being ….
What I would like is to hear some of your personal thoughts and opinions on that. I would love to hear from business owners out there as well as fellow bloggers/ writers and more.

Clean up your Catagories for more efficiant blogging and marketing
If you use your blog for more then just your personal keeping your friends and family posted blogging, but use it to advertise your company or products, monetize it etc. you need to try to keep your blog(s) as clean and efficiently running as possible.
A good blog or website should have three key features in order to keep its readership happy and the advertisers smiling.
#1 Quick loading and pleasing to the eyes!
#2 Easily Navigated!
#3 Filled with interesting and regularly updated content!
All the fancy flash designs and glittery eye catching texts usually only slow load time down and for some people can even make them sick to their stomachs and are hard on the eyes. Playing automatic music start up may be fun for some, but most do not want to have unwanted music coming at them while trying to search the internet. Either way, it might look amazing and fun, but it still reduces your loading time down. This takes up valuable seconds which you could have used to catch your readers attention.
Make it look clean! Set up “suitable” categories for the topics you write about. On a “mixed bag” blog like mine in which I address several different topics, it is extremely important that my Readers can easily find the category and posts they might be interested in.
When I first started my blog and then as I moved it several times, I ended up creating a huge spaghetti bowl of categories. Half of the time my “tag” words created new categories which made my blog look slobby and hard to navigate.
I have made it a habit to “clean up” my Blogs once a month. Consider it a deep cleaning for my cyber homes. During those clean up days I take a critical look at my Blogs to see what a visitor might see. This morning I was putting my focus on easy navigation and category surfablity. It wasn’t as clean as I would have liked so I have spend about 4 hours wiping out all “old” categories and listing my posts in easily searchable categories.
The result is a much cleaner look and a much quicker path to the post interests of the individual reader. Exactly what your Readers are looking for and you as a Blogger should want to supply.
You may want to adept this little habit; you may be surprised how many “oppsy” you catch during those days and how much better your website or blog is off for it.
Taking the time to go over your old blog posts will also show you where you might have large gaps in your posting archives. Life sometimes keeps you from posting on regular bases, but when you suddenly have two to three week gaps in between, it will keep you from possible advertisement opportunities. Again we are talking about those of us who use their blog(s) to market and make money online. For private entertainment blog a writer that is not a big issue, for anyone using this venue to generate an income or setting up their reputation and gain a loyal readership those gaps can be a serious self sabotage.
May I suggest you spend a few hours to “fill in” those gaps with amusing or interesting content which is not “time sensitive”?
Great topics of that nature are jokes, interesting facts in history, a write up about something which is of permanent interest (saving money, coupon sites, year around cheap holiday locations etc.) to most Readers.
If your categories have more then one sub-subjects add a small summery to the Category Title. You can do so in most blog admin areas via the description text box when adding category names. Think of your blog as a brand new brick and mortar store a browser just walked into. He or she does not know her/his way around. By adding clearly readable “sign posts” above your virtual aisles (categories) you make it a lot easier and enjoyable for them to browse for what they are interested in.
If you use Adsense, Amazon affiliations or other affiliate links to monetize your blog try to set up your categories to aid you in being able to integrate the various links into your texts. Some of the wordpress plug-ins give you an option to automatically place advertisement into the newest blog post. Try out if this works for you, you may find that it brings you more clicks and you may find that it doesn’t. Every blog owner will appeal with his/her style to a different set of readers.
Should you find that you would rather “insert” advertisements into your blog posts manually; clean categories can make it easier for you as well to keep your affiliations categorized to match your blog categories. Remember the more your background work is streamlined, the easier it is for you to concentrate on making your post as interesting as possible.
Here I would like to invite some you my fellow writers and readers to send me your “Guest Blogger” posts with the topic “Blogging streamlined – what worked best for me”. Of course your posts will hold 100% credit to you with a link to your blog and a quick description about your blog. Would you like to share your success stories? Please feel free to send them to me at ReginaSunderland@reginasunderland.com

Use twitter to make money
A few months ago I signed up with sponsored tweets, the company that pays you to tweet for companies. Now at first I was very skeptical, I usually am. I don’t belief in advertising for something I don’t think it is good.
This is where sponsored tweets is wonderful. You don’t need to tweet about companies you don’t think are good or you wouldn’t use yourself.
Using sponsored tweets is EASY and you don’t need to pay anything to sign up. You can do it as much as you feel you want to or as little. I go weeks sometimes in between finding an opportunity I want to lend my name to, and then suddenly these really great deals come along to which I just can’t say no!
For example today a lovely $2.00 off coupon on Playtex Gentle Glide Tampons. Who wouldn’t feel good about passing that along?
Ladies get a $2 off coupon on your next box of Playtex Gentle Glide tampons. Click link to receive coupon now. sponsored http://spn.tw/tCWDr
Or the deal on Business Cards for 1000 full color double sided print for only $25.00
A word to Business Owners as well. Twitter is a far reaching social media operation with a wide audience driven by tweeter users globably. Signing up at sponsored tweets as an advertiser is a great way to get your offers and business out on a small budget.
Do the math! Even if you can only afford to approve the tweet to 15 tweeters and each of them have 200 and more followers, you already have shown your tweets to a large audience, then those followers give you the opportunity to be seen by their followers via the tweet views of the the orignal poster. Adding up to thousands of views easily for only a few dollars.
YOu may also hire me directly via sponsored tweets by using this little button:
Blog advertisement is not outdated!
Over the last few years I have seen more and more articles telling advertisers that blog advertisement is a thing of the past. This could not be further from the truth. Blog advertisement is a very lucrative and economic option to traditional advertisement venues online.
Allow me to outline some of the benefits which blog advertisement brings to the savvy marketer.
A blog in a good ranking which you can see via their PR Rating will be visible in valuable spots in search engines like Google, Alexa, Bing etc. This means potential traffic and visibility for your ads. Since Blogs are updated regularly their online caches stay fresh and their visibility has the opportunity to increase. Increased visibility for the blog equals increased visibility to your products. Remember that online regular updates make a huge difference. Static Webpages usually do not get an “overhaul” on a regular base and depend heavily on good SEO coding and link exchanges. The smart blogger is aware of the importance of linking into ping services as well as complimentary blog directories, as well as social networking media. Again this means an ever increasing publicity for your advertisement.
Most of the time blog advertisement is only the fraction of the cost which you would have to pay for website advertisement or even yahoo business, yellow page advertisement or Google Adsense. This gives you the benefit of stretching your marketing dollars further and allows you to purchase advertisement on a multitude of valuable Blogs.
Now that I have hopefully made my point, let me give you some tips on choosing and integrating your advertisements on Blogs.
Find complementary content Blogs which will bring the desired traffic. For example if your business is Photography Equipment you may want to research Blogs which deal with photography, technical reviews, amateur photographers, specific photography equipment how to. You see what I mean? The Readership on those types of Blogs are already interested in photography, which means they may want to upgrade their equipment, need repairs or even be interested in taking photography up as a new hobby. In all of those cases your potential for garnering new clients via a well thought out and eye catching advertisement is pretty good.
Look for Blogs with a decent PR Rank. You can visit http://www.page-rank-calculator.com to find out what the current PR Rank of a website you are interested in is. I suggest you target Blogs with no less then a 5 in PR Rank. Trust me those are not that easy to achieve and takes a lot of dedication on the part of the Blog Owner. Which means your advertisement is in good hands.
Make your advertisement visually attractive. I usually suggest the use of banner advertisement combined with text advertisement to my clients. If possible the best place for a banner ad to show is on the top right corner of the sidebar. This has the greatest visibility since the readers will see it immediately upon entry.
Make your advertisement “eye friendly”. Too much flash and poor color combinations can take away from the effect you are hoping to achieve. Remember that you only have about 15 seconds to make your statement. So make it count.
May I suggest you ask the Blogger if he would be willing to put together a package deal for you? What do I mean by a package deal? Find out if they would be willing to put up your advertisement banner as well as write a little introductory blog post about your services, company or product. I would suggest you shot for a blog post around 500 words and at least 3 links to your site. This may cost you a little more in the beginning, but remember that even after your advertising period is over, the blog post will remain in the blog archives which means continuing advertisement for you.
Make certain that the blog is updated regularly and don’t be shy to check back from time to time to see that your advertisement is still in the agreed upon spot and well functioning
As you can see there are many benefits to being a smart marketer who utilizes blog advertisement especially now with the increased reputation of Blogs as media information.
As always yours truly,
Regina S.
Goddess help me today was social bookmarking day!
Alright to be honest I have no idea what got up my little tushy this morning but for some reason I got it into my head that I needed to get a lot more active again on my marketing.
Might have something to do with the dropping revenues? Yup, that would be it. That plus I was finally realizing that it was time for me to focus my attention again on things that matter like my business for example.
I never really worked much with the social bookmarking sites like digg, stumbleupon, friendfeed etc. My traffic wasn’t all that great from them and most of the time I was so busy creating content, that rubbing elbows with the other virtual socialites out there was not really on my priority list. Of course that is a mistake to say the least, because in order to get known you need to put yourself out there.
So this morning I literally tore my little black notebook apart and started back over. The old accounts that really no longer fit me were disabled and new accounts created. So over then next week or so you will see all sorts of happy little social badges popping up all over my sidebar.
I would like to encourage you to click on the ones you belong to and if you feel like it add me to your friends or community circle. I promise those who do and give me a little ole lead to where they are via the add, I will find the badges on your websites and add you to as many of mine as possible as well.
One happy little social marketing family!
In all honesty so, my hat off to those of you who have been working tirelessly to build those huge 2000 + social circles on 15 different networks, I have no idea how you have managed this. It took me all day just to get the 10 I have so far set up and updated.
Joining Groups, posting on others blog postings and more is a full time job. I have a funny feeling I am going to have to take one day a week just for social housekeeping.
Anyone want to make it a group day? Meet up with me on my Yahoo Messenger so we can keep each other on track and kick each other into the butt? If you do email me at reginasunderland@reginasunderland.com and I will give you the Yahoo Messenger Address which will be open that day only.
For now, time to take a bath and then relax with my new movie! YEAH….Wimpy Kid Review coming up soon.

Make a little bit of cash with sponsored Tweets!
I have just recently started trying sponsored tweets out and I have taken an opportunity so far. As with everything else in life it is slow going of course and I seriousely doubt that I will ever get rich of it. But why not utilize all your advertisement options.
The way I see it is: If you are going to be a twitterholic anyways and have a large following of loyal fans, why wouldn't you take the opportunity to make a couple of pennies here and there from sending a sponsored tweet from a product or service you can appreciate?
Afterall, pennies do add up! And I won't leave any opportunity stone unturned.
Now if you have a twitter account with at least 50 followers yourself and would like to see if you can get some opportunities coming your way, then why not sign up to sponsored tweets?
Sign up is free and only takes a few moments of your time. Well I done my job here, another opportunity for my fellow bloggers and tweeters to make a little mad money. Main requirement? Be patient – remember to those who wait something good will come. I am living proof!

Keywords and SEO help at your fingertips
It has been debated over several websites and blogs back and forth if SEO and/or Keywords really make such a big difference in how your website or blog is found and used. No matter how you view it so, the fact is that without the proper Keywords your Articles, Posts or Products just do not receive the traffic and popularity in the main search engines.
I am not sure if you are a complete wiz with words and even more so searchable keywords, but I know that I can not find all the most search keywords by myself. I need a little help. Since I am trying very hard, just as you are probably, to not only give quality content in my Articles, but also work SEO into it as much as possible, I did a little search for a cheap or free tool that would help me achieve that.
I went through several options, from wordtracker to some of the tools offered by Goggle and found them valuable, but too expensive for my low key budget. I finally came across one tool that not only includes wordtracker, yahoo keyword search and google along with several others, but is super easy to use and extremely affordable.
Nichebot.com currently runs a $1.00 trial for 14 Days which gives you full access to all their functions. The Trial can be cancelled easily at anytime before the 14 Days are up. I have been using this Tool for the last few days now and started learning how to utilize their Keyword Searches, how to dig deep for keywords, read threw their extensive knowledge library and found this SEO and Keysearch tool something I am definately willing to pay a monthly fee for.
I personally opted for their Silver Level (lowest and cheapest) which is only $17.50 a month. They have higher and "better" Levels as well and all of them are at a very reasonable low price. For it was just simply a case of do I need all those Extras? Since I do not run huge marketing campaigns but need something simple and precise, this Level for now is good enough. I may however decide to upgrade at a later date.
I have talked enough about this wonderful and very budget friendly Keyword and SEO Tool. Now why do you not take a few moments to visit Nichebot yourself and read what they have to say, and take advantage of the $1 14 Day Trial. I am sure you have spend more money on less valuable things in the past. They do accept all major credit cards as well a paypal for payment options.
As always.

I think I am going apeshit here!
Ok, so this is a two parter, so stick with me. I can write, boy can I write. Sometimes I think my brain is hardwired somehow to my keyboard, and sadly I can't live without writing.
At times that is great, other times it is like being a typing rabbit on steroids. Not a good picture, you can see! So where am I going with this? Alright, writing articles, books, blog posts – no problem! I am there, I can crank them out quickly and hopefully engagingly enough. Marketing them, selling them, writing a dry press release for my newest book not so easy.
I think that is where most of us writers start falling short. If you sell your manuscript traditionally to a big publishing house you have their marketing people behind you, trying to push the product. But honestly these days most publishing houses don't take new writers on anymore. So I go the self-publication route, and there is no shame in it, no matter what so many "How to get published books!" tell you.
I belief it was Stephen King who was rejected so many times in the beginning that he finally published one of his first published books via a vanity press. Not that I am anywhere near the league Mr. King is, but the point hopefully didn't get lost on you.
So getting the name out, marketing the goobies out of the books and articles is so hard for me. "Well Regina dear, hire a marketing firm then!" I have heard that statement several time, and guess what darlings, those cost money. A lot of money, which on a shoe string budge like mine, I just don't have.
But and that brings me to part two, I did find this today. And it is free, so it may work for me, and it may work for you if you have something to market. Of course you can just enjoy the free classified ads and have a chuckle. FREE mean – no cost to you! Give it a try!
I told you I was going Ape Shit…..giggles happily!
